In Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck, the protagonist, Huck, is greatly influenced by four people: Widow Douglas, Tom Sawyer, Pap and Jim.
Widow Douglas influences Huck directly by showing and telling him positive what to do’s and what not to do. She treats him respectful sometimes when she thinks he deserves it and she teaches him about religion. When Widow Douglas is not with Huck she influences him indirectly when he would have to make a choice for something he would know right from wrong. An example of the Widow influencing Huck directly is when Huck says “Now she had got a start and she went on and told me all about the good place.” On pg. 2.
Tom Sawyer influences Huck directly by showing imagine and adventures. When Tom is not with Huck he influences him indirectly when Huck refers to Tom in certain situations. An example of Tom influencing Huck indirectly is when Huck says “Tom Sawyer wouldn’t back out now, and so I won’t either;” on pg. 51.
Pap influence Huck directly by telling him negative things like not going to school and to steal, but not really using steal, he uses borrow. When Pap is not with Huck he influences him indirectly when Huck needs or wants something he takes it and calls it borrowing. An example of Pap influencing Huck indirectly is when Huck said “ Pap always said it want’t no harm to borrow things, if you was meaning to pay them back, sometime;” on pg 49.
Jim influences Huck directly by telling superstitious things to Huck. An example of Jim influencing Huck directly is when Huck says “Jim told me to chop off the head and throw it away and then skin the body and roast a piece of it.” On pg. 40.
Without these key influences in his life, Huck would be a very different person.

Huck Finn Response (Ch. 1- Ch. 12)
So far in the book. Huck Finn has been living with the Widow. He was going to school and getting an education and he was liking some of it. Tom Sawyer made a pretend club of bandants. He has six- thousand dollars. Until he senses that his father has come back to town. So he gives all his money to Judge Thatcher because he knows that when his father comes back that he would take all his money. Of course he would use it for buying liquor. So when his father came back to town, Huck found him in his room. His father was looking like a bum. He had tore-up shoes with his toes sticking out and just rags for clothes. He told Huck to stop going to school because he thinks that he's trying to outsmart him in a way. Huck, just to irratate his father, goes to school. Huck's father soon kidnaps Huck and takes him to a woodhouse in the middle of a forest. Huck runsaway from the house and stages a fake death. He runs to Jackson Island and meets Jim, a runaway slave. Jim didn't want to be sold to another owner so he ran. They soon runaway fr0m the island when Huck goes to town to see what's the new news. A old lady tells him that people are looking to kill Jim. So Huck and Jim split. While Huck and Jim were in the mississippi river at night, it starts to thunder and rain. They see a bout which they board and hear people talking and talking about killing someone. The people hear Huck and Jim and are after them.
I like the book so far. I like how there's a lot of adventure. Plus it all makes sense so I can understand it. The vocab of some people is a little funny but is also easy to understand. I think that this book might be better than Of Mice and Men. There's a lot i'm looking foward to in the book.
